Transneft Upper Volga Completes Repair of Electric Motors of Pump Units at Pumping Stations

Date of publication: 25 October 2018 Print

Transneft Upper Volga has completed overhaul of eight electric motors of mainline and booster pump units at Gorky, Stepankovo and Prudki oil pumping stations as well as at Starolikeyevo LODS and Vtorovo BPS, in Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov and Vladimir Regions.

The works were performed in the period from January to October 2018. When repairing the 800 – 5,000 kW electric motors, modern insulation materials were used, which allow to reduce winding losses as well as to restore the original parameters of electric motors, thereby extending life of each up to 40 thousand hours.

The series of technical measures was implemented within the Transneft facilities’ overhaul programme as well as the energy saving and efficiency improvement programme. According to the results of the nine months of 2018, the Company’s specific energy consumption decreased by 0.6%, which allowed to save 3.7 million kWh.

The energy saving and efficiency improvement programme provides for the oil pumping process modes’ optimisation, cleaning of pipelines’ inner surfaces and mud trap filters, replacement of electric motors of mainline pump units, installation of energy-saving lamps in internal and external lighting systems. In addition, new types of anode beds are used to protect pipelines against corrosion. The programme also provides for introduction of new insulating materials for heating networks as well as renovation of the motor fleet and special equipment.

In 2018, Transneft Upper Volga will continue to implement these measures and achieve further savings of more than 4.9 million kWh of electricity annually.
