Transneft Upper Volga has completed in-line inspection of the Ring Petroleum Products Trunk Pipeline’s (RPPTP) section around Moscow.
The works were carried out at the Solnechnogorsk loading station (LS) – Nagornaya LS section of Volodarsky Regional Petroleum Products Pipeline Directorate (158 km–99 km of the Eastern half-ring). The goal is to increase reliability and ensure uninterrupted petroleum products transportation through Transneft’s petroleum products trunk pipeline system.
The RPPTP inspection was carried out by four types of in-line inspection tools produced by Transneft Diascan. The following devices were used: ultrasonic WM and CDL type inspection tools, which measure wall thickness of the pipes, a geometry tool to collect information on cross section of the pipeline and the magnetic inspection tool MDScan, which can detect defects in the pipe wall, such as slits, notches and metal loss. The information obtained from the results of the in-line inspection will be analysed and taken into account when scheduling work to eliminate defects of petroleum products trunk pipeline.
The work was performed in accordance with Transneft Upper Volga’s in-line inspection programme for oil and petroleum products trunk pipelines, as well as the development programme for the Ring Petroleum Products Trunk Pipeline around Moscow and the Moscow Aviation Hub in order to increase the volume of petroleum products transported and loaded for consumers of the capital region.
