Transneft Upper Volga Sums Up Results of Environmental Activities for 9 Months

Transneft Upper Volga has summed up its work in the field of ecology and environmental protection for the 9 months in 2019. During this period, the Company spent more than RUB 45 million on environmental activities.

The key areas of activity included purchase of equipment preventing environmental pollution, maintenance of treatment facilities, recycling of industrial waste and environmental campaigns.

In 2019, a package of environmental measures aimed at artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources has been completed. 14,516 young sterlet fishes, one of the most valuable freshwater fish species, were released into the Gorky and Cheboksary reservoirs in Nizhny Novgorod Region, as well as into the Oka River in Vladimir Region.

For several years, the Company has been rendering financial support to the programme of restoration of the European bison population in Vladimir Region implemented by Meshera National Park in the Murom federal reserve. Since 2014, the number of bisons in the reserve, situated in Vladimir Region, has grown from 47 to 101, reaching the maximum possible number of animals for the reserve. Thanks to the funds provided by Transneft, a special cage was built on the territory of Murom Reserve to catch young bison individuals in autumn and relocate them to another specially protected natural areas for developing a new herd.

In 2019, more than 24 km of route electric power transmission lines were equipped with aerial bundled cables to protect birds from electric shock on the territory of the Republic of Mari El.

In May 2019, employees of the Mari El Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (RPD) took part in planting pines in forests. A total of 11,800 pine seedlings were planted on the territory of forestries of the Republic of Mari El. Employees of the Ryazan Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate planted 8 thousand seedlings in the Shilovskoye forestry of Ryazan Region.

Transneft Upper Volga pays a lot of attention to environmental safety, compliance with environmental laws and regulations and development of a responsible attitude towards nature. High environmental safety standards are a must for the implementation and functioning of all Company’s infrastructure projects.
