Transneft Upper Volga Eliminates Illegal Tapping Consequences at Petroleum Products Trunk Pipeline in Ivanovo Region

On 25 November 2019 at 16:44 (MSK) at the 289th km of the Gorky — Yaroslavl petroleum products trunk pipeline near the village of Sedelnitsy of Komsomolsky District of Ivanovo Region, employees of Transneft Upper Volga discovered diesel fuel release. The reason for the release of petroleum products was illegal tapping into the PPTP.

Emergency response teams of the Gorky Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate of Transneft Upper Volga promptly arrived at the site of the petroleum products release.  The fuel release was contained. Currently, measures are being taken to eliminate the consequences of the incident. Soil cleaning, collection and transportation are in progress. Works on preventing the fuel release into the Lagish stream, which flows into the Uvod River, were conducted. 46 specialists and 21 special-purpose vehicles are involved in the works.

The situation poses no danger to people and the environment and will not affect consumers. Continuous environmental monitoring is being carried out at the site of the petroleum product release. There are no grounds for announcing an emergency.

An unidentified third party, who had a fuel stealing criminal intent, is responsible for the petroleum product spill. The theft of the petroleum product is being investigated by authorised bodies in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
