Transneft Upper Volga Conducts Firefighting and Tactical Drills at Ryazan PS

Date of publication: 22 July 2020

Transneft Upper Volga has conducted garrison firefighting and tactical drills (F&TD) at the Ryazan oil pumping station (OPS) of the Ryazan Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate in Ryazan.

According to the drill scenario, there was an explosion of the oil gas-and-air mixture in a vertical steel tank with a floating roof with a volume of 10,000 m3 followed by simulated destruction of the tank roof and partial "flooding" of the floating roof at the Ryazan PS.

After receiving the first signals of the simulated fire, the station’s personnel performed the necessary technological switching. Voluntary fire brigades of the facility and EMERCOM fire fighting units promptly arrived at the place of the simulated fire. Together with the personnel of the oil pumping station, measures were organised to evacuate people to a safe place, cool the tank, prevent the situation from worsening and eliminate the "fire", as well as to organise the emergency operations centre work. A foam attack was carried out.

The event was attended by the Ryazan PS volunteer fire brigade, the station's maintenance and operating personnel, as well as representatives of the fire and rescue garrison of the EMERCOM of Russia in Ryazan Region. In total, 60 people of the fire guard workforce of the station and the EMERCOM business units were involved in the drill, 15 pieces of equipment were used.

As a result of the drill, members of the supervisory commission issued a positive opinion concerning the effectiveness of the drill carried out. The Ryazan PS personnel confirmed its readiness to take practical steps to eliminate abnormal situations at Transneft Upper Volga facilities. All the goals and objectives were achieved: the simulated fire was contained in the shortest time possible.
