Transneft Upper Volga Improves Energy Efficiency of Oil Pumping Station Equipment in Vladimir Region

Transneft Upper Volga has installed 3 variable frequency drive (VFD) systems in modular enclosures for mainline pump units (MPUs) at the Filino oil pumping station (PS) in Kovrov District of Vladimir Region.

The VFD system is used to regulate the rotational speed, as well as provides smooth starting of the MPUs’ electric motors with a capacity of up to 5,000 kW and a voltage of 10 kV. Modular enclosures with a service life of 40 years and latest electrical equipment were installed. All equipment is manufactured in Russia.

Internal electric lighting of the VFD enclosures is provided by energy-saving LED lamps, power cables with a special cross section, due to which the line losses do not exceed the standard value, are used. In addition, automatic switches with overload protection were installed and optimal power supply schemes were developed to minimise voltage losses.

The new equipment has improved resource and operational characteristics, increased efficiency and allows to reduce the annual spending on electrical energy used for oil transportation.

After comprehensive testing, the variable frequency drive systems at the Filino PS will be commissioned.

The package of measures was implemented as part of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme, as well as within the energy saving and energy efficiency improvement programme. The goal was to increase reliability of operating facilities and ensure uninterrupted oil transportation.
